    Senior Custodian

    The Senior Custodian keeps the library's buildings and grounds functionally and aesthetically intact by ensuring cleanliness, tidiness, and maintenance, which allows our patrons and staff to enjoy and utilize our facilities to carry out our important mission and vision.

    • Performing daily cleaning duties throughout the facilities and grounds such as removing garbage, sweeping/mopping floors, cleaning windows, cleaning and sanitizing bathrooms, dusting, etc.
    • Partnering with and managing outside vendors to maintain facility cleanliness.
    • Managing exterior walkways and grounds by removing debris, sweeping sidewalks, shoveling snow, spreading salt, etc.
    • Managing general cleanliness of the library parking garage
    • Performing light maintenance such as replacing light fixtures, unclogging pipes, etc.
    • Painting, drywall repair, hanging/removing items from walls
    • Taking inventory of maintenance/cleaning supplies
    • Keeping buildings and grounds free from pests
    • Maintaining strict safety protocols

    REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

    • At least 3, but preferably 5+, years’ experience in a custodial, janitorial, and/or similar role
    • Proficiency in basic maintenance work and repair
    • Knowledge of proper cleaning techniques, equipment, and use
    • Understanding of related safety protocols
    • Basic math skills
    • Good communication skills
    • Experience managing outside vendors
    • Ability to work cooperatively and positively with patrons and coworkers
    • Ability to be self-directed
    • Attention to detail
    • Trustworthiness

    MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

    • High school diploma or equivalent

    PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS

    • Ability to bend, kneel, stoop, reach, walk, crawl, and ride on equipment, including across potentially uneven or slippery surfaces
    • Ability to pick up and carry 50+ pounds at a time
    • Ability and willingness to use stairs and ladders
    • Ability to be on one’s feet for long periods of time
    • Ability to work a varied schedule including day, evening, and weekend hours

    Hours: Full-time at 30+/week; must have daytime, evening, and weekend availability
    Starting pay: $16/hour commensurate with experience
